Leuven - Sint Donatus Park

According to the map there is a path leading to the park opposite our current rental. We finally found an entrance after walking halfway round the park.

It's a nice place though, laid out around a surviving portion of the first, 12th century, city wall.

We discovered the path we should have used hidden behind the band stand. It wound through Atrecht College and out of the college gate into Naamsestraat. I must remember not to take the concept of path too literally.

In the college coartyard is a wonderful brass astrolabe.

Bondgenotenlaan runs from the station to the Grote Markt.

Just before the Grote Markt it widens into Fochplein. In the centre of Fochplein there's a statue of a student, reading a book and pouring beer into his/her brain. I have never seen a more succinct summary of student life.

A birthday visit to Jack and WInnie, who live on Sluiseiland, between the locks. Their living room window overlooks the middle lock, so one can sit all day watching the ships go past.

Amsterdam - Jordan

A chance to visit the Jordan again, our favourite part of Amsterdam. It's the area around the canals to the west. There are no trams there, so it's a little less frequented by visitors, but it's lovely - old houses, canals, quirky shops, cafés and restaurants.

Settled down to breakfast/lunch at Café Thuijssen with Penny, Stuart and Megan.

Then back to Rusty in IJmuiden for the night. The fouling on Rusty is getting a bit thick. There's lots of interesting things happening here by the sea lock, but enough salt water gets locked through for the barnacles to survive, or even thrive.
